Abundance Living: What is it like to live in abundance?

What is abundance in life? Do you know what abundance is? Does having money, cars, and great houses mean that you are living in abundance?

One of the best words I’ve heard about abundance and scarcity is:

There is a lie that acts like a virus within the mind of humanity. And that lie is, There’s not enough good to go around. There’s lack and there’s limitation and there’s just not enough. The truth is that there’s more than enough good to go around. There is more than enough creative ideas. There is more than enough power. There is more than enough love. There’s more than enough joy. All of this begins to come through a mind that is aware of its own infinite nature. There is enough for everyone. If you believe it, if you can see it, if you act from it, it will show up for you. That’s the truth

Michael Bernard Beckwith

Those words by Michael Bernard Beckwith were shocking to me at first when I watched the movie “The Secret” for the first time. It was at that moment the first person in my life who talked to my heart about there’s more and that this planet is abundant. The speakers in the movie certainly talked about abundance and lack but for some reason, Mr. Beckwith’s words touched me deeply.

First to begin with I believe that we must understand the term abundance. To many of us, abundance means having lots of money and living luxuriously which can be true to some extent but is it the actual spiritual meaning? You can have money, cars, and great houses but what if you are not satisfied? What if you feel that you have to do more, more and more to keep them? Will you consider that abundance?

The Decease of Scarcity

I don’t think so. I think that is scarcity. The fear of losing something. I used to have a millionaire boss who worked day and night at his school. I love to work by the way and have no problem. His thing was different. It seemed that our workplace at the time was an escape for him
from what? Well, not sure but maybe from life itself.

I used to think that this man has money that can be given to forty families, and those forty families would live with it and pass it onto their grandchildren. He used to say that by the way. This rich man was always under stress, he dragged us with him and only had two weeks a year for a holiday with his family I even felt that he was obliged to do it. He didn’t travel for pleasure.

Stress & Pressure Isn’t Bad. But!

Being under stress isn’t bad but we are talking about years of pressure and stress that he was diagnosed with a couple of illnesses. The big problem was that his reality became a reflection to others. It reflected badly that some of my colleagues during the period of six years working for him got divorced, separated from their spouses, cheated plus having to work with a cluster of unhappy workers in the building. You could feel this energy vortex in the atmosphere.

Many people considered him as an idol. People respected him. When people asked him, what his secret to success was he said “hard work.” I’m all good with hard work and grinding. My question is, is it worth it if you are not sure that things have to be like that to the rest of your life?

Does Having Enough Guarantee Happiness?

I’m talking about where do your hard work and grind come from? Is it a purpose? Is it for the highest good to humanity? Or is it only to make more and more money? What is the translation of your approach to work and hard work? Is it just do, do, do, push, push, push, and get your monthly salary? Do money and material success guarantee the life you REALLY desire?

Well, if that is the case then you work because of scarcity. Not just you, millions of people are like that as the whole system is designed on scarcity as it reflects the energy of the stakeholders.

Let’s talk about scarcity for a bit. When we define scarcity, it is a reaction to a perception of limitation, lack or loss that we don’t want.

Forms of Scarcity

Scarcity appears in many forms. It can be in the form of worry and anxiety. It shows up as fear like I have to work, harder, harder, and harder. Scarcity shows up as not being able to enjoy life. Not being able to have fun.

Many of us have grown up with the belief “You can’t go out and play until your homework is done.” I’m not saying do not tell your child not to finish her homework. What I’m saying is that there are a lot of people out there, never getting their work done, so never being able to play and truly let themselves play and recreate, except for their two weeks, a year vacation, and things like that.

Scarcity can show up in hoarding or contracting, or hanging onto things too tightly. Another great one is overwhelm and procrastination too.

There is Not enough! what Am I gonna Do? His hair cute right? 😉

The Thought of “There isn’t Enough”!

The perception of scarcity, or limitation comes from some thought of there’s not enough. And when people have the thought that there’s not enough, or they’re not doing enough or they’re not good enough or they don’t have enough that creates a reaction in their behaviors and in their actions.

Many people are indebted in some way or other credit cards, a new car installment, or a house mortgage. We think that we must have these things and that is the way of life and living.

I want you to stop and start to take a look and ask some questions?

But you see what happens oftentimes is when we are in our scarcity way of thinking, it’s like, we get so in it you can’t see the forest for the trees and most of us don’t take time to see! Can’t we stop and ask why am I taking this action? how come I have a mortgage and how does that set up more scarcity in my life? How does that keep me in the rat race of having to work harder and harder?  Is this action supporting me where I want to go? Or am I just doing it because that’s what somebody told me to do?

The scarcity choices we make in life rob us of our power. They rob us of our energy and so the first step for you is you just need to start to become aware of them. Because if you’re not aware of the way they’re robbing you of choice, freedom, power, and energy. You will probably go around in circles doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

Step back and take a look at the forest from the trees.

On the contrary, abundance is the quality of life that you have when there’s a feeling and an experience of being fulfilled. Imagine having a life with the things that you value the most. freedom, love, fun, fulfillment, and health.

We think that the way to become more abundant is to put more into our lives.

A life of Doing Doing & Doing

When you do that, you usually create more scarcity. One of the things that hold us back is the current system is a perfect guide to scarcity. We are conditioned in order to be successful, we have to do something, you have to go to school, you have to get a good job. You have to make money, you have to save money. I mean, we are oriented in our society for doing. Do you think the emphasis on doing to have more money and a nice home makes you abundant? No, because abundance becomes a goal, it is down the road maybe when you retire right?

I want you to stop for a moment and think about the qualities and characteristics abundant people have. Some of the common ones they’re courageous, creative, disciplined, focused, dedicated, receptive, generous, flexible, and consistent.

An abundant person has a positive vision of himself. He has it because he put in the time to create it. He had enough energy and juice to plot it. He wasn’t busy and fatigued. How on earth would you have a clear vision when you are in a race?

The total emancipation from the fear of lack

The total emancipation from the fear of lack

Abundance can’t be earnt this way. Abundance is a way of accepting and trusting life and what it has for you. Abundance is generosity and fearlessness. It is the ultimate freedom of being who we really are. The total emancipation from the fear of lack.

The first step towards abundance is to realize the rut you are in, that you are running, running and running all the time, become aware of it then little by little start to get clear about what you’re not clear about as taking care of your finances and putting more energy into what really matters to you. Then build your vision for the life you desire to be. Your vision shall correlate to your being and who you are.

Abundance is realizing our old patterns then step by step moving forward towards the spirit of being and not doing. Begin to meditate, script  and do mindfulness. You will certainly do and take some steps but definitely allow time for contemplation and celebration.

Ralph Waldo Emerson  once said,

“Man was born to be rich, or grow rich by use of his faculties, by the union of thought with nature.”

Abundance is more than being rich, it is beauty, health, joy, compassion, and peace as part of your daily life.
